Concepts
So those standards up there can have some pretty confusing words so we are going to break it down so
we can understand them better.
- When we talk about main idea or essential message, we just mean that when we read something that we
should be able to tell someone else, what it was about or what were the most important parts of what we read.
- When we are reading a story its important to know the name of that story so we can remember it later, the
name of the story is also known as the Title. It is also important to remember who wrote the story, that person is
called the Author.
- The illustrator has a very important job. Some of your favorite books have wonderful pictures in them
and the illustrator is the person who works with the author to draws the pictures to match what the story is about.
- Our textbooks also have some extra parts that our storybooks do not have. Some of those parts are known as
a Table of Contents, this tells us the different subjects or things that the book is going to talk about and what pages
we can find them on. A Glossary, has the definitions to all the important words we need to remember from the
chapters. Another part in the Index, this is found at the back of the book and it takes all the important subjects
or names of people and tells you on what pages you can find information about them in your textbook.
